Tips to keep your RV running smooth

maintenance Any type of vehicle you’ve ever owned, you’ve wanted to take proper care of it and make sure that it lasts as long as it possibly can for you. The same can be done for a motorhome, especially if you like to take nice long road trips to new places you’ve never seen before. There are some things that you can do in order to ensure your RV is properly looked after and taken care of so it lasts as long as it can.

Just like cars, motorhomes also need their oil and filters checked and changed regularly. The necessity of this is so your engine continues to run properly and you continue to visit new cities and sites. If not done regularly, your engine could seize and you could end up paying as much as $10,000.

Along with changing your oil and filters, make sure you service the RV’s generator as well. Check your manual for recommendations on how often you should service it, but run it regularly when your RV is not in use or stored for a prolonged period of time.

Always inspect the roof seals and seams at least every six months. If you don’t you could be subject to water damage, which could end up costing you hundreds or thousands of dollars to repair if not noticed or taken care of immediately. If you have a rubber roof on your RV, make sure you have it treated at least once a year. Doing so will help prevent the sun from doing any damage to it.

Finally, before you take any trip make sure to check your batteries beforehand. Deep cycle batteries last anywhere from 3-5 years and should certainly be replaced after that life cycle is over. Taking the battery out during the winter months and storing it somewhere warm will help keep it in good condition for longer. The last thing you need is for it to freeze and break, voiding the warranty on it.
