Checklist for Setting Up Camp

At Hemet Valley RV, we love helping recreation vehicles owners of all types. That includes everyone from experienced owners to new buyers looking to take their first trip in a new RV.

Setting Up CampIf you plan to make your first trip this summer, there are a number of things to do to set up your campsite once you arrive. To help you have the best trip possible, we’ve put together a list of a few easy-to-do setup tasks that can help make your trip more comfortable and fun.

For example, when you first arrive at a campsite, ask if the campground provides an escort service for first-timers. Some campgrounds offer the help of a seasoned staffer, who will take you around the grounds and help you find a good place to park that is level.

Once you arrive at your assigned site, determine if you need to back in or if you can pull through. Identify where key hookups are located on the site, like water, electrical and sewer connections, and match up where they are on your RV so that you can position the vehicle in the best way possible to reach these access points. Also, make sure there are no low-hanging branches or other obstacles that could interfere with your RV.

Once positioned, apply the parking break and level your vehicle if the ground is not flat. This is best done using blocks and/or a stabilizing jack. You’ll then be set to plug your RV into nearby electricity, but make sure the amperage of your RV matches what the site offers. Make sure that you have an extension cord packed, as well, just in case it’s needed, and if you have a fridge that works on propane while traveling, make sure to switch it to the AC setting to draw on electricity instead.

Finally, hook up your RV to the drinking water connector and check for any leaks. Once all that is complete, put your feet up and relax at your home away from home.
